| Lady Debut: Ohayocon 2006 Notes: Even if you have no idea who I am as a person, you probably know of me in this costume. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the lower right hand picture posted in various places online. >.<; Lady was my dream costume for at least a year before I actually even made it. I wanted to make the costume so bad, but didn't have enough time or a good con to wear it at until Ohayocon 2006. The amount of work on this costume was pretty incredible. The ammo pouches alone had to be completely made from scratch (cardboard, hot glue and vinyl), then handpainted to look plaid, then each line of plaid was outlined in sharpie, then the entire pouch was lightly sprayed with black spray paint. And there were 8 freaking pouches! I also made the gun, the Kalina Ann, with a bit of guidance from my friend Voltz and the use of powertools by my dad. One question I get asked a lot is "Where did you get your boots?" The boots actually started off as a $30 pair of plain black lace up boots from Hot Topic. I spot-sprayed the boots with red spraypaint, let it dry, then spot painted again with a peach colored paint. Lastly I sprayed the boots with fixative, a clear gloss that artists use on charcoal drawings. I was happy to see my labors were recognized when I won Best Craftsmanship in the Journeyman's division at Ohayocon 2006. Since I was trying to look exactly like Lady, I used a lip liner slightly darker than my skin to create scars on my nose, arms and legs. The judges definitely noticed, firstly by saying "Oh, what happened to this poor girl, she's covered in scars!" Haha, my makeup had done the job right. |
